Description

This 6" antique style hourglass is constructed from brass and runs about 5 minutes.Hourglasses were one of the few ways of measuring time out at sea. It's been suggested that their use started as early as the 11th century. Magellan even carried 18 hourglasses on each of his ships during his trip around the globe. His pages used them to provide the time for the ship's log. From the 1400s they have been used in capacities ranging from kitchen timers to industrial uses.These hourglasses make beautiful display pieces in any nautical or old fashion decor.
